Fire & Explosion Consultant

Simon is a Fire and Explosion Consultant based in our Cardiff office.

Formerly Simon worked for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service which he joined in 1999 as a firefighter. As a Crew Manager Simon spent over six years in the safe management of fire and rescue incidents, the implementation of community fire safety policy and the training, development and assessment of firefighter competency.

After graduating with a Master’s degree in Fire Investigation in 2012 Simon joined MTD the same year. Simon has specialised in the investigation of fires and explosions worldwide in marine, industrial, domestic and transport environments. Simon has investigated numerous cargo/vessel fire and explosion incidents and bulk cargo quality issues. He has conducted fire investigations on board various types of vessel including bulk carriers, tankers, container carriers, ferries and car carriers.

His work has involved extensive travel with cases involving diverse products such as coal, charcoal, water sterilisation products, plant and machinery, vehicles, foodstuffs, grain, mineral ores, fertiliser, methanol, fuel oils, batteries, recycled waste, scrap metal, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, aluminium, wood, rapeseed and hazardous chemicals.

Simon’s marine experience includes the provision of advice for vessels on fire, post fire or those carrying cargoes which are self-heating and/or generating flammable gases. He has attended on board to monitor cargo/vessel spaces and mitigate the risks posed by heating cargo, fire and/or the accumulation of flammable gases.

Simon is a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers, the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, the UK Association of Fire Investigators and the International Association of Arson Investigators.
