Salary: Dependent on experience
Position: Permanent (M – F, 37½ hrs/week)


Job Description

To act as a laboratory scientist in the Minton, Treharne & Davies Instrumental laboratory in Cardiff. This will involve performing analysis on various matrices but significant proportion of oil and petrochemical samples following International Standard and in-house test procedures and entering test results on to laboratory LIMS system, whilst ensuring the laboratory complies with ISO 17025 requirements..

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake analysis on various sample matrices, interpret results and enter results into laboratory LIMS system, in line with instructions by laboratory managers and in line with requirements of the laboratory standard ISO 17025.
  • Undertake investigative analysis as is directed to provide adequate evidential support for clients’ purposes.
  • To participate in collaborative trials, surveys, performance assessment, routine work and to keep abreast of and advise on relevant analytical, equipment and systems developments.
  • Perform calibrations and maintain equipment as instructed by laboratory management.
  • Demonstrate compliance with all test methods, procedures and quality systems.
  • Carry out validation of instruments/methods where necessary.
  • Maintain organised systems of work for traceability and compliance with laboratory accreditation.

 

Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum Science Degree appropriate to the work of the department.
  • Minimum of 4 years (analyst) or 8 years (senior analyst) post-graduation extensive experience in a petroleum/ petrochemical ISO 17025 laboratory for
  • Experience to be in routine testing & investigative analysis on various matrices including bunker fuel, Jet fuel, lubricants, etc.
  • Technical, in addition to practical, knowledge in petroleum laboratory techniques such as Pensky Marten close cup flash point, Abel flash point, sulphur content, cloud point, pour point, viscosity, sediment tests, density (Hydrometer & Densitometer), etc.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and LIMS systems.
  • Understanding of the significance of the tests being performed.
  • Highly motivated, can do attitude.
